A Clos is a walled vineyard and there is only 21 clos in all Champagne. The walls surrounding this 3,7 ha clos were build by the monks of the Cistercian monastery in Oger to prevent thieves from stealing the grapes.
This Grand Cru clos is located close to the church in Oger and the soil underneath the Chardonnay vines are packed with chalk.
The 2014 vintage of La Chapelle du Clos will develop nicely if stored correctly and if you can not resist to open a bottle now, you will have our most sincere understanding. We could not resist to open a bottle and we were blown away by how grand this wine really is. The minerality, the tight acidity, the underlaying sweet bready notes and all the tropical fruit notes on top of it all. Make sure to let the wine breathe a bit before consumption.
...and make sure to hide some bottles away in the basement for future enjoyment in 2030-ish.
